Kent Little League 2009
Junior Boys All-Star Team
Congratulations to the following 11 players who will represent Kent Little League in this years summer tournament.
The team will be managed by Bob Madeo and coached by John Hunt
Blake Diaz, Bryce Sisson, Cesar Cota, Drew Monson, Jeremy Halverson, Kevin Hainsworth, Matthew Martin, Mike Mazzitelli, Riley Baker, Spencer Armstrong, Steve Hunt, Tony Madeo.
Game 1 Kent 6 Steellake/Soundview 5
After a scoreless first 3 1/2 innings Kent started the scoring in the bottom of the 4th with a 2 run double by Jeremy Halversen scoring Cesar Cota and Spencer Armstrong who both reached on walks. Stlk/Soundview then scored 3 in the top of the 5th, Kent then responded with 4 more runs in the bottom of the 5th, with Blake Diaz providing a key hit in the rally, to take a 6 - 3 lead. After a scoreless 6th, Stlk/Soundview rallied to score 2 in the top of the 7th but Kents Mike Mazzitelli was able to close the door on the rally sealing kent's 6 - 5 victory.
Outstanding work by starting pitcher Bryce Sisson and some good defensive work behind him kept Kent close until the bats warmed up. Besides the key RBI hits Riley Baker, Matt Martin and others had basehits in the game.
Game 2 Kent 4 South Hill 3
In another close game Kent was able to grab a 1 - 0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning with Blake Diaz scoring on a passed ball. South Hill remained scoreless until the top of the 4th when they plated 2 to grab the lead, but yet again the Kent team answered with 1 in the bottom on a 2 out RBI single by Tony Madeo to tie the game after 4 innings. After a scoreless 5th, South Hill got 1 across in the top of the 6th for a 3 - 2 lead, but yet again Kent came back with 2 in the bottom of the inning on 3 consecutive singles by Tony, Mike Mazzitelli and Drew Monson. Steve Hunt then drove in what would be the winning run on a groud ball to second.
Once again outstanding starting pitching by Tony and relief pitching by Blake paced the Kent victory. Some good defensive work Kevin Hainsworth, Spencer Armstrong, Cesar Cota and Steve also helped in this victory.
Thursday July 2nd vs Federal Way. Lost with a game report to follow. They play again, Friday night at 5pm.
Friday's Game against BLS ended the Kent Juniors All- Star season. Kent lost the "loser out" game 9-5. Even though the season is over for the Juniors they had a terrific season finishing third in district. Good luck next year. Go Seniors!!!! who play in the championship game Sunday at 12 noon.
